Public Policy
The League of Women Voters of California is a nonpartisan political organization that advocates on public policy issues and takes positions on ballot measures. It is separate and distinct from the League of Women Voters of California Education Fund, which provides neutral, nonpartisan voter information and education through services such as SmartVoter.org and the Easy Voter Guide Project.

Our activities for the 2010-2011 League year
Redistricting California - The Citizens Redistricting Commission will release their new State Assembly, State Senate and Congressional maps on July 28th. Final maps will be adopted by the Commission on August 15th. The Commissioners are soliciting public comment on these visualizations and will be receiving, reading and considering those comments throughout their meetings directing the line drawers of the final maps.

Riverside's League supported The Group's recommendation to form an independent citizen's panel to judge claims of ethic violations brought against City Council Members and members of Boards and Commissions. We gave testimony to the Council on September 21, 2010
We applaud our City Council for adopting recommend reforms to our City's Code of Ethics, including seating a panel of current Board and Commission chairs to hear and judge complaints.
Letter sent to Riverside Superior Court in favor of counting the 12,563 neglected votes in the June 8th Primary. League members were also urged to contact their County Supervisors and LWV NRC sent a letter to each Supervisor urging action on the issue. On July 9th, 2010 Judge Fisher ruled that clearly the voters had done nothing wrong, having voted in a timely fashion, and said, "I will not disenfranchise 12,563 voters because of a mistake between two agencies."
Letters sent to Congressman Ken Calvert, urging him to vote for the DISCLOSE Act and for funding to study the restoration of the Santa Ana River's ecosystem.
Letter sent to the local media, disputing District Attorney Rod Pacheco's reasons for not participating in our DA Candidate forum in May 2010.
